Threads: An Interactive Light Experience
“We don't accomplish anything in this world alone... and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” Sandra Day O'Connor, Former US Supreme Court Justice

Threads is a temporary public installation set in a wooded preserve in Birmingham, Alabama, where groups of participants explore a visual narrative of life through a progression of custom stationary shafts of light. Each shaft’s color represents a different life stage: Early Life, Adulthood, and Late/End of Life. At dusk, participants are provided with custom primary-colored light wands and are invited to wander through the forest of shafts at their own pace. As they progress, slow shutter speed cameras capture their interactions with the light, creating a unique visual tapestry that reflects their personal journey. Once finished, participants are emailed their creation, documenting their journey.
