The World Games Legacy Sculptures
Sometimes an opportunity crosses your path where you realize a chance in a lifetime may be occurring. And so it could be said of our involvement with The World Games. Having the privilege to design legacy sculptures to be placed around Birmingham to celebrate and commemorate the 2022 World Games is that chance. Working alongside a team of engineers, craftsmen and contractors, it is a joy seeing these become a reality. We make our work as deep in meaning as our clients allow, and this project provided a great opportunity to go deep. Following are ideas that influenced the design.
The foundation for the sculptures is rooted in the individuality of humanity and our uniqueness. This is captured most distinctly in the human eye, with it’s over 256 unique characteristics and over 2,000,000 working parts.
This led us to exploring vision, perception and perspective.
Each of these have dual meanings that we feel are incredibly important to the world as well as our city.
Vision - An experience in which a thing or event appears vividly or credibly to the mind, although not actually present
Perception - Immediate or intuitive recognition or appreciation, as of moral, psychological, or aesthetic qualities; insight; intuition; discernment (world, art, each other)
Perspective - The state of one’s ideas; A visible scene, especially one extending to a distance

And then culminating in UNITY; The state of being one; oneness. A whole as combining all its parts into one.
