An idea is understood more fully when it can be compared to one that is already understood and a design or thought is more meaningful when it empowers someone to come to their own opinion, their own revelation.

These are some of the design principles cast into the Element.  The straight line and the angle, the square and the circle, using both new technology and ancient technology.  While these might be seen as contradictions in the design, these juxtapositions can also be seen as a means for each piece to harmoniously strengthen its counterpart.   The state of tension embodied in the differences of the individual elements is what gives the power and strength to the whole.
