29th Street Studio
29th Street Studio is a space to generate, collaborate, and cultivate ideas for the future atop the past.
Out of one of the original loading docks of the Birmingham Dr Pepper Bottling Company, a studio was composed using layered planes and lines, creating a thought-provoking environment for designers through its exploration of form, light, and color. Using recycled resources and rethinking commonly accessible materials, the space generates a street-level energy which often results in spontaneous exploration from passersby.
Upon entering the studio, the existing loading dock serves as a focal point for dividing the space both programmatically and spatially with the existing stairs providing a spine of circulation that moves from public to private. At the heart of the studio is the main creative space which utilizes an open floor plan to promote idea conception, development and criticism.
To complete the creative process, the studio is designed to facilitate the fabrication and display of new ideas and products.
